Chimney

A chimney is a vertical structure for the removal of flue gases outside. The function of the chimney is based on the chimney effect. It generates an updraft with the gas column, which is lighter in comparison to the surrounding air. The geometric parameters of height and internal diameter of the chimney must therefore be coordinated with the quantity of flue gas to be conveyed and its temperature. The flow of the gas generates lower air pressure in the chimney, which prevents flue gases from penetrating the living areas from fireplaces. The chimney therefore does not need to be gas-proof vis-à-vis adjacent rooms. However, the design must ensure that wind does not push into the chimney.
